“I continue to keep myself grounded through my involvement with people’s organizations and community development work.”

I am a Professor of Management of the University of the Philippines Baguio with a Master in Public Health from UP Manila and PhD from the University of Sydney, NSW, Australia. As a researcher, I sustained research publications in the field of health services and non-profit sector management, including Indigenous Health Knowledge and Practices, Gender Studies, Health Policy Studies, Health Program Assessment and Evaluation Studies, and Community Development Participatory Action Researches. I have been involved in various international/national/ regional/local funded researches/projects such as with the Ottawa and Australian National University; APRU Research group; Department of Health (both National and Regional); CRHRDC and UP faculty grant and professorial chairs. I have kept my ties as a professional nurse with Philippine Nurses Association (PNA). I have served PNA in various capacities such the National President in 2019; Board of Governor; Board Secretary; Chapter President; Chair of the House of Delegates; and committee Chair of the Department of Public Affairs. I am the editor-in-chief of the Philippine Journal of Nursing since 2008. I am also active with various non-government organizations such as President of the Community Health Education, Services and Training in the Cordillera Region Inc.; President, Cordillera Center for Health and Social Concerns Inc.; Chair, Capability Building Committee of the Cordillera Region Health Research and Development Consortium (CRHRDC 2008-2017); Regional Coordinator of the CRHRDC (2018-present); Chair/member, Luke Foundation; and member/officer of various cause-oriented organizations (Alliance of Concerned Teachers; All UP Academic Employees Union). I am the founding president of the Philippine Nursing Research Society (2008-2016). I currently serve as President of the Social Inquiry and Building Capacities for Research, Inc. (SIBCRI). These involvements led my nomination and acceptance as Fellow to the American Academy of Nursing and the only Filipino to be awarded the Princess Sranigarindra Laureate Award in 2021. I have been recently been conferred as UP Scientist III.
